Giveaway Winner

Thank you for all the comments on my last post.  I used the random number generator website and it came up with number 8, which is Heather at Pink Milk

Congratulations!  I'm sure you'll love the book.  If you let me know your address I'll pass it on so a copy can be put in the post.

Just to cheer up anyone with the Monday blues, some beautiful tulips.  Not from my garden of course, but it won't be long'till they're flowering.

Right,  Hubby's started a new job today after being at home for a while so I'm off to do some tidying and spring cleaning.

Book Review and Giveaway. "The Cut Flower Patch" by Louise Curley

Bloggers are often asked to review items and when approached last week by Francis Lincoln, the publishers of  "The Cut Flower Patch" by Louise Curley I was happy to say yes as I have a weakness for gardening books of all kinds and know it's a subject that many of you are keen on.

You may know Louise from her Wellywoman blog or magazine articles.   She has a cutting patch on her allotment and her passion for growing seasonal, eco-friendly flowers and other plant material is clear. ( Read her post about the book Here )

The book covers all aspects of making your own cutting patch, from design and maintenance to useful tips on growing plenty of annuals, biennials, bulbs, foliage etc.  There's also advice on foraging material from the hedgerows and garden.

The section on arranging your flowers has heaps of inspiration for creating beautiful, simple displays through the year and there's a useful list of some favourite suppliers at the end.

I haven't managed to read all of the book yet.  It's the kind that you can dip into and refer to for useful information as well as flicking through for the beautiful images (by photographer Jason Ingram)

All in all, a lovely book, that anyone who wants to grow their own cut flowers will enjoy.  It would make a nice gift for newbie gardeners I think.

Here's a couple of pics to give you an idea.

Francis Lincoln have kindly offered a free copy of the book as a giveaway prize.  If you'd like a chance to win it just leave a comment and I'll draw the winner at random on Monday at 12.00  noon.
Good luck.

I'm Back!

Hello.  Apologies for being absent from blog land for so long.  I didn't mean to disappear, but just haven't felt inspired to dig out the camera recently, with the unspeakable weather making hibernating indoors the best option.
Anyway, yesterday's lovely bit of sunshine in the morning was a tonic.  I ventured out to the greenhouse and rescued a couple of pelargoniums for the house.   A lot of the fuchsias are looking very sad, but I gave everything a good water and tidy so hopefully they'll perk up a bit.
There are signs of life in the garden, with plenty of snowdrops and these gorgeous hellebores cheering the place up.

Thank you for sticking around.  Hopefully it won't be as long 'till my next post!
